The College of Nursing of the University of Pangasinan-PHINMA held its 62nd Capping, Pinning and Candlelighting Ceremonies on July 27, 2012 at City Deluxe, Dagupan City.

The capping and pinning ceremony serves as a stepping stone for 84 sophomore students witnessed by their parents and relatives. Females were donned with the white cap on their heads while males had their shirts pinned, thus jumpstarting their initial journey to the professional nursing education.

Dr. Anna Maria Teresa S. de Guzman, provincial health officer, served as the guest of honor and speaker. She shared her insights on how student nurses can be successful in their chosen field.

After the actual capping and pinning, the student nurses pledged in unison as part of the tradition which dates back to the time of Florence Nightingale, also known as the “mother of modern nursing” and the “lady with a lamp.”

The ceremony, held annually, serves to commend the students’ dedication and hard work.
